Midwifery With Altitude Charity

Training Centre

We have funded the local community to enable them to build the training centre, which was finished at the end of 2009.

We have also enabled a local man to attend university for healthcare training. He will be based at the training centre, running courses throughout the year.

We are now currently raising money to build some small shops on the land adjacent to the training centre, the rent from which will enable the training centre to be self-supporting. It is intended that construction of the shops will commence in Autumn 2010.

Midwifery Team for 2010

A team of three midwives intend to return to the Himalayas in September 2010, to continue the safer motherhood and disease prevention training sessions started in previous years.

Healthcare Booklets and Equipment

We have provided 200 healthcare booklets, which are printed in Lhasa, to be distributed to nomad families. Also, simple equipment has been provided, following training, for use in the villages.

Sponsored Runs

Debs Whiston, daughter of our chairperson, Mary Coslett, successfully completed the challenging "The Marathon des Sables" endurance race across the Sahara Desert in 2009 (see her website at www.MDSrunMdS.co.uk).

The funds raised were used so that several hundred children could have immunisation against infectious diseases.

This year Debs in running in the Plymouth Half Marathon, to raise money for the charity's general fund.
